2011’s “Hick” looks like a terrible movie for so many reasons, but beneath the surface I found a movie worth my while.

Hick 2

Luli McMullen (Chloe Moretz) is a young girl who decides to run away from home seeing as her home life (and parents) isn’t anything to be proud of. Seeking adventure and a better, more exciting lifestyle, she plans to find her way to Las Vegas. Meeting all the wrong people, Luli finds adventure, just not in the form she had intended.

Evaluation: Let’s start with something I normally don’t bring up…the music. I will listen to anything in the world except for country music. I despise it mostly because modern day country music is all the same crap just by different singers. I can however, respect REAL country music, and I believe that this movie has the right music to set the mood and match the surrounding environment and situations. It made a big contribution to my admiration of the film, on top of the fact that the cast was great.

“Hick” won’t have you on the edge of your seat, and it is in many ways, predictable. But the way the story is told, and the way that the events transpire, make this an excellent “rainy day” movie. In other words, if there is something better to watch, then go for it, but if your looking for something different, or just something to watch on a boring day, then this would be a good movie to try.
